Thank you to everyone who came to our authentic Curry night tonight. It was a great night with fantastic food.

Special thanks to Khaled and his lovely family for cooking our authentic Punjabi banquet. The food was, as always, delicious.

Thanks also to Adrian, Liz, Callum and Roger for helping with all the clearing up at the end of the night.

Our next event will be the summer carnival/family fun day. Keep your eyes on here, our website and the parish magazine for more details.

Don't forget September is our Produce Show, now's the time to check out the schedule on here and make sure your entries are growing well! 🌹🌵🥕

Please see post from Crooklands Farm, this is sad news and I'm sure the community can do their bit to support them. Please clean up after your dogs and exercise them responsibly.Good morning

Can I ask dog owners to only walk dogs on public rights of way rather than in fields.

Grass fields are either for cattle to graze or they are collected for silage for cattle to eat later in the year.

In the last 2 weeks we have had 4 cows aborting their calves. 7 calves. Neospora, found in dog faeces causes abortions in cattle.

Farmland in private unless there is a public right of way. Both the land and lanes at Crooklands are private.

We know that there are lots of very responsible dog owners within the area. But we have been made aware of someone walking their dog in our field and other dogs allowed to roam unattended. There is evidence on the track in the field.

I have placed notices on the gates as a reminder.

We really don’t like having to post things like this but know as a close community you will understand.

As many of you will now know the lease on the Village Hall will end in February 2025. Following public meetings (you can see our Facebook page for more info) the Committee is pursuing two options.

1. To continue with a new lease – we have been advised by the Landlord (Carlisle Diocesan Board of Finance) that a new lease would be granted but on revised terms such that the rent is likely to increase ‘ten-fold’ – a position that would make the running of the Village Hall unsustainable. We are taking legal advice to see whether there are any steps we can take to mitigate this.

2. To purchase the premises on behalf of the Charity. It has been offered for sale by the landlord. To achieve this, we are submitting a grant funding bid to the Community Ownership Fund in late May 2024 which, if successful, may award up to 80% of the costs of purchase. This is a one-off opportunity as it is the last ever round of funding from the Government scheme. This means that the community is asked to find at least £25,000. The more we are able to raise the better we will score on the grant funding mechanism. We have already approached local businesses both inside and outside the parish as well as the Parish Council. But there is also the need to ask the local community to contribute. The Village Hall will contribute £5,000 from its reserves.

The Village Hall has been and continues to be the focal point for many of our community based activities and it is clear that there is great support for it to continue. The opportunity to purchase brings the hall back into the ownership and control of the local community. It would be owned and managed by Blencogo & District Village Hall, a registered charity.

The Village Hall Committee is asking whether you would be able to provide a pledge of financial support towards the purchase of the hall to secure its future? The grant application asks us to set out what funding has been promised and what is yet unsecured. If you feel you can help it would be great to know by the middle of May 2024.

Would it be worth considering a Not for profit Company rather than a charity? Far less hoops to jump through and still qualifies for a lot of funding.

Have you tried national lottery? Also a weekly lottery yourselves in the village and surrounding area
